Your Videos on DVD

Why should I transfer my videotaped memories to DVD?

  • Videotape has a shelf-life of about 10 years.  It begins deteriorating as soon as you remove the protective plastic wrapper.  Many of your older recordings are already at risk and are being gradually chipped away as the recording surface of the videotape sheds more and more particles.  Worse, as particles accumulate inside your VCR they can cause the videotape to jam and be irreparably damaged.
  • Digital quality DVDs have a predicted shelf-life of 100 years.  While it's true that the DVD format may not last 100 years, your irreplaceable family memories or event videos will be preserved in a digital format that will be tranferable to future formats.  The current DVD format is the most successful consumer format in home entertainment history and it will be with us for many years to come.
  • Once captured on DVD, your digital files will always have the same quality, clarity, and color.  Your DVD memories will never fade.
  • We offer affordable transfers to DVD complete with a navigation menu and chapter stops.   Our "authored" DVDs are fully customized to the content of your recordings.  Other transfer houses offer "budget" transfers your recordings to a consumer DVD recorder that randomly assigns chapter stops.  We provide the extra care your videotaped memories deserve at a price you can afford.
  • Editing and image restoration is also available to condense or clarify your videotapes.

What formats can you transfer to DVD?

  • VIDEO: VHS, SVHS, VHS-C, MiniDV, 8mm video, Hi-8mm, and other videotape formats
  • FILM: 16mm, 8mm, Super 8mm

What should I transfer first?

  • This is primarily a personal preference, but most people think first of their oldest recordings and/or of special events such as weddings, baptisms, bar/bat mitzvahs, reunions, school activities or athletic meets, holidays, and other special events.  Even recent recordings of once-in-a-lifetime moments are candidates for preservation and transfer to DVD.

I have heard that some home video DVDs won't play on every DVD player?

  • It's true that the DVD-R format is not compatible with all DVD players.  But it is compatible with most DVD players...over 95%.  Most incompatible players were manufactured 3-4 years ago.
  • If the disc we create for you is not compatible with your system you have three options
  1. replace or return your player
  2. buy a new player
  3. return your DVD disc for a full refund

(we have yet to have a customer take us up on the third option)

  • You may want to check your player against one of several lists available on the internet to be assured it is compatible with the DVD-R format.

What equipment will you use to create my DVDs?

  • Dell Pentium 4 workstation
  • Adobe Premiere Pro video editing software with a Ligos encoder
  • Adobe Encore DVD authoring software
  • Pioneer DVD burner
  • DVD-R recordable DVD dics

Is there anything you won't transfer to DVD?

  • We will not transfer copyrighted material unless you can demonstrate that you are the producer and copyright holder.

What does your DVD transfer service cost?
